EEG Biofeedback Can Be Helpful in Treating Brain Damage
Posted on Saturday February 19, 2005
Margaret was born with severe brain damage that left her blind and unable to speak or even respond to her parent voices or touch. During the first 4-1/2 years of life, her body would rock with up to 24 seizures a day. A severe gag reflex disorder caused her to vomit when she put toys, fingers or food in her mouth. When doctors told her parents that Margaret would remain unresponsive and heavily medicated throughout her life, the couple decided to seek treatment outside traditional medicine. The search led them to an EEG Biofeedback provider in New England. Two years after treatments to retrain Margaret?s brain waves began, the child?s seizures and vomiting have nearly disappeared, she smiles and giggles at the sound of her parents? voices and is starting to play and mimic sounds. There?s a little girl that?s coming out that was probably always in there but had no way to get out,? Her mother said. ?For a parent who was given little hope, it?s a beautiful thing.? Although Margaret?s improvement for severe brain damage is more dramatic than that of most clients, it does demonstrate that help is available to those who suffer brain damage through birth, stroke or injury.
